Much of our work in user experience design transcends the typically simple interactions of a web application. Over 18 months, we led the rebranding of Huber Engineered Materials as a “best in class” supplier of calcium carbonate and titanium dioxide. The revised position justifies Huber’s premium pricing, and clarifies the value of their exclusive consulting and engineering practices.
We decided to launch the new position through their global trade show circuit over two years. I designed a new trade show “experience” that stood our from every other exhibit in two ways. The first was a glowing presence with a purpose. “The Huber Brain” was designed to light up the conference floor, establishing Huber as “the mining company with a brain.” The pervasive use of white underscores the message of purity of their calcium carbonate, and Ti02.
With the help of Huber’s engineers, we created five "science experiments" for customers to interact with – each designed as a conversation starter related to the customer’s need. Finally, we designed a kiosk and iPad app, allowing customers to choose any combination of products and services to create a printed, or PDF brochure specific to their needs. The kiosks are designed to withstand the harsh conditions of Huber’s mines so, when not in use at trade shows, they can be used for news and education for those who work in the field.
